Herlegacyhk.com serves to disseminate and consolidate information in one space to help Ethnic Minorities navigate NGO, governmental funds, grants, and other resources available to them in Hong Kong.
our vision
- To promote Diversity, Equity and Inclusion(D.E.I)
- To create a multilingual database where language barriers can be broken
- To create a platform to help share stories of ethnic minorities and their struggles and achievement
Hi, my name is Sohana Mulchand and my website is called HerLegacy HK. I look to promote and enhance information dissemination for ethnic minority individuals to promote education and other needs. By helping individuals receive an education, I believe you can effectively help reduce poverty and increase an individual’s earnings and prospects. Education can help promote self-regulation and relieve hopelessness, thus improving mental health of individuals. Education can also help promote diversity equality and inclusion (D.E.I).
Furthermore, education helps serve societies. Education can help promote economic growth in a country such as Hong Kong. By providing skills, knowledge and information students can enter the workforce and partake in jobs with more successful outcomes. It can also help reduce economic inequalities because if people were provided with education, the large disparities between the rich and poor can be reduced.
Identifying as a 17-year old Indian Ethnic Minority, I would like to use my experiences and research to help drive this project. Growing up, I have first have experienced the inequalities and disparities within the system as a female minority. These experiences range from pure discrimination to implicit bias. The gaps with integration, equity, xenophobia, and education in HK can be bridged, and with this project I hope to create awareness, accessibility and opportunities for women
In doing so I recognize that I am inspired to do this because of various influences. These include my upbringing; my parents’ kindness to others, my spiritual beliefs, and my core value; knowing that everyone is created equal. My school education at CDNIS and its community has also provided me with the skills, sensitivity, and passion to explore inclusivity, diversity and honesty.
